The James Bond game "007 First Light" is delayed on Switch 2: The version for Nintendo's console is now expected to be released in the course of the summer, developers IO Interactive announced in an X post. The versions for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, on the other hand, will be released on May 27. Originally, all versions of the game were scheduled to be released together in March.
Nominally, there are only a few months between the Switch 2 release and the other versions at most – as long as IO Interactive can stick to the timeframe. Even in the best-case scenario, however, it would be remarkable that the Switch 2 version is taking longer. It suggests that problems may have occurred during porting.
Switch 2 with Hardware Disadvantage
IO Interactive does not go into detail about the reasons for the later Switch 2 release of "007 First Light" in the X post. A Switch 2 port is a technical challenge for development studios, but potentially lucrative: The Nintendo Switch 2 had an initially record-breaking launch in June 2025 with 3.5 million units sold in the first four days. However, Nintendo has recently throttled production according to a Bloomberg report in view of weak US sales figures.
While the Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than the first Switch console, it still lags far behind the current consoles from Microsoft and Sony. IO Interactive would not be the first development studio to struggle with the technical limitations of the Switch 2: The Switch 2 version of "Borderlands 4" from development studio Gearbox was also delayed and eventually put on hold. The Switch 2 port of "Elden Ring" was also postponed.

"007 First Light" is an action game from the "Hitman" developers, revolving around a young James Bond: It is intended to shed more light on one of the cult agent's earlier missions. Gameplay scenes shown so far suggest a mix of "Hitman" and "Uncharted".
