Podcasters generated more than US$629 million in revenue on Patreon last year, an increase of 33 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, the platform is growing in terms of both podcasters and fans: more than 47,000 podcasters publish content there, supported by around 7.6 million paying subscribers, Patreon writes. For comparison: in 2024, revenue was around US$472 million, an increase of around 35 percent compared to 2023. The number of paying subscribers was 6.7 million at the time, an increase of almost one million within a year.
According to Variety, pop culture and comedy, lifestyle and hobbies, and education and information are among the highest-grossing podcast categories on Patreon. Among the better-known podcast offerings on Patreon are Quentin Tarantino's "The Video Archives Podcast" and the podcast of former rapper Joe Budden. The latter generates more than a million US dollars in revenue per month.
Patreon interprets the growth as a trend towards direct fan podcasting, where revenue is generated more through relationships with paying fans rather than through advertising or algorithms.
"Feeds are more crowded than ever, algorithms shape what people see, and while clips travel, audiences don’t always stick. At the same time, fans are looking for something deeper: more access, more community, and a closer relationship with the creators they actually care to listen to. Podcasting is designed for that shift," writes Patreon.
Patreon focuses on tools and partnerships for podcasting
The growth of the category was preceded by investments in podcast infrastructure and partnerships with platforms like Spotify. Podcasting tools include features for managing multiple shows, providing free and paid content, and new ways to bundle and market episodes or seasons. Patreon also offers ad-free live streams and newsletters.

Last year, Patreon also launched a partnership program for podcast networks, which initially includes selected podcasts from Sony Music, among others. This underscores the platform's ambition to attract not only individual creators but also larger podcast networks as monetization partners.
At the same time, Patreon has further expanded its integration with Spotify, which was introduced in 2023 and later expanded to include combined free and paid feeds. This allows creators to place exclusive content directly alongside freely available episodes, increasing the visibility of paid offerings. Around 15 percent of Spotify listeners who have visited a creator's Patreon page subsequently sign up for a paid subscription, COO Paige Fitzgerald tells Variety.
