OpenAI is aligning its ChatGPT paid plans more closely with its Codex coding tool. The company is responding to both the increasing usage and competition in the field of AI-assisted programming.
The company is now offering a new Pro plan for 103 Euros. The previous Pro plan for 229 Euros remains available, but is now listed as a sub-option on the pricing overview.
According to OpenAI, the 103 Euro plan is designed for longer, particularly intensive Codex sessions and offers up to five times more Codex usage by default than the 23 Euro Plus plan. Until May 31st, the new plan will benefit from a promotion that increases the standard Codex usage volume up to tenfold compared to the Plus plan. The still available 229 Euro plan now offers twenty times more Codex usage than the Plus plan.
Plus for everyday use, Pro for intensive use
After the promotion ends, the Plus plan will be adjusted, according to OpenAI, to support more sessions throughout the week rather than longer, particularly intensive Codex usage on individual days. The two Pro plans are intended for this purpose.
Otherwise, everything remains the same: For occasional users, the free ChatGPT Free and the entry-level ChatGPT Go plan for 8 Euros are still available. In the USA, OpenAI is currently testing advertising for both plans; whether and when it will come to Germany is still open. Codex is temporarily available in both plans with usage limits that are not specified.

With the new Pro plan, OpenAI is responding to competition from Anthropic, which has been offering a comparable paid plan for a long time and, with Claude Code, is one of the most used providers in the field of AI-assisted programming. Speaking to TechCrunch, OpenAI states that more than three million people worldwide use Codex every week. Codex usage has quintupled in the past three months and is growing by more than 70 percent monthly.
