This year's Triple-i Initiative lineup shows one thing above all: Survival remains an important theme in the indie sector but is increasingly being expanded with exciting new elements. It's no wonder, then, that arguably the most high-profile announcement among the around 40 presented titles was the continuation of one of the genre-defining games: „Don't Starve“ will be continued.

Klei Entertainment announced the continuation of the now thirteen-year-old survival series with “Don't Starve Elsewhere”. The studio remains true to the familiar survival principle: players collect materials, build a base, and fight against a hostile environment – alone or in multiplayer. The world structure is primarily new. Instead of flat maps, Elsewhere relies on vertical areas with mountains, bodies of water, and cave systems. According to Klei, there will be snowy peaks, rivers, and branching underground areas. The game world continues to be procedurally generated, meaning it is newly generated with each playthrough.

In addition, there are different climate zones, such as rain in forest areas or extreme cold at high altitudes. A central threat remains a spreading fog, which, according to the game description, curses everything it touches. Players must decide whether to avoid it or deliberately walk into it to explore secrets. When the eerie survival adventure will be available remains to be seen for now. So far, only PC via Steam is known as a platform.

Crema also presented a sequel with “Temtem: Pioneers”. Unlike its predecessor, which was playfully close to Nintendo's success formula from the “Pokémon” games, the focus here shifts towards survival, crafting, and action combat. “Palworld” comes to mind. The game begins in a new region described as unexplored and dangerous.

Here, players must collect resources, build equipment, and erect shelter. However, collecting creatures remains: the Temtem serve as companions and fighters and can be customized. A co-op mode is also planned. While the original "Temtem" was partly financed through a long early access phase, Crema was able to secure funds this time through a successful Kickstarter campaign. A release date is still pending.

“Solarpunk” is significantly more relaxed, developed by the German studio Cyberwave. Players navigate airships over floating islands and build bases there alone or with others. Crafting focuses on a sustainable system: animals provide resources without being harmed, and energy is generated through wind, water, and sun. “Solarpunk” will be released on June 8, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Radical Fish Games, also based in Germany, presented “Alabaster Dawn”, the spiritual successor to their indie hit “CrossCode” from 2018. The action RPG in pixel style, which starts in Early Access on May 7th, will include genre-typical combat and puzzles, as well as the reconstruction of a destroyed world.
