Starting April 19, 2026, new prices will apply to the market-leading VR headsets Meta Quest 3S and Meta Quest 3. The new prices in Germany will be as follows:
- Meta Quest 3S (128 GB): 360 Euros instead of 330 Euros
- Meta Quest 3S (256 GB): 470 Euros instead of 440 Euros
- Meta Quest 3 (512 GB): 620 Euros instead of 550 Euros
Prices for Quest accessories will not change. Meta cites the “global surge in the price of critical components — specifically memory chips” as the reason for the price increase. This has significantly increased the costs for developing high-performance VR hardware, according to the official blog. Other hardware products, especially Meta's successful smart glasses, are not affected by the price increase.
Memory Crisis: An Entire Industry Under Pressure
The price changes come after extensive layoffs in the VR division, which are part of a broader strategic shift towards greater economic sustainability, which could also include higher prices for upcoming VR headsets.
To dispel doubts about its own VR commitment, Meta states that it will continue to invest in VR and sees it as the “future of computing.” The company has a long-term roadmap with new hardware and experiences. The price adjustment is intended to help implement these plans.

Meanwhile, the memory crisis is also putting other consumer electronics manufacturers under pressure. Both Sony and Microsoft have already increased the prices of their game consoles, and Valve is also feeling the effects. It remains unclear when the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller, announced in November, will be released. Originally, the launch was planned for early 2026, but Valve now only speaks of a market launch in 2026.
