Anthropic has introduced Claude Design, a new AI tool for creating designs, prototypes, presentations, and websites. The experimental tool, released by Anthropic Labs as a Research Preview, is based on the new AI model Claude Opus 4.7. It is available to subscribers of the Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans at no additional cost. However, for Enterprise organizations, Claude Design is deactivated by default and must be enabled by administrators in the organization settings.
Anthropic has been cautious regarding design matters so far. While the text AI could answer questions about images, users searched in vain for graphics or even images. With Artefacts, Anthropic recently offered interactive components and diagrams in the chat.
Developers remain the focus
This is now changing, with Anthropic remaining true to its focus on developers, but it also remains interesting for non-developers. Example videos show how, for instance, a website with background animation is generated. The AI is also intended to assist in designing apps. Users can interact with the model after an initial prompt and, for example, incorporate comments in the feedback, discuss the design via chat, or use AI-generated sliders to influence spacing, colors, and layout.

For those who don't want to start from scratch, existing design files and programming projects can be imported. This way, favorite colors, typography, and components can be considered. Images, documents from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or code can also be imported. Furthermore, elements of an existing website can be integrated using a capture tool.
Declaration of war on Google
Claude Design is somewhat reminiscent of Google Stitch, which was presented at the Google I/O developer conference in 2025. However, Anthropic's tool is more broadly positioned. And it even allows created designs to be further processed directly in Claude Code. Canva, which also offers AI tools for design, was integrated as the first export partner. Figma also now allows the integration of external AI models for design workflows and can further process designs from Claude Design.
With Claude Design, Anthropic strikes a double blow: On the one hand, it is a declaration of war against Google, which seemed to be positioning itself as the laughing third party in the duel between OpenAI and Anthropic. On the other hand, it hits OpenAI at a weak point: While OpenAI has a very good image AI, it lacks a comparable design tool. OpenAI recently launched a counter-attack against Claude Code with a major Codex update. It is to be expected that OpenAI will not leave this release unanswered for long.
