Amazon has pledged to invest another 25 billion US dollars in the AI company Anthropic, which in turn will book resources on Amazon's cloud service AWS for more than 100 billion US dollars over the next ten years. Both companies announced this and explain that as part of this, "the full Claude platform" from Anthropic will be made accessible on AWS. This will give companies full access without having to adapt their existing infrastructure. However, this will not include the particularly powerful AI technology Claude Mythos Preview, which will only be made available to selected cybersecurity firms.
Ever new billion-dollar deals
With the two-stage investment, Amazon is deepening its partnership with Anthropic. According to the announcement, the US group has already invested eight billion US dollars in the AI company so far. This made the world's largest online retailer one of Anthropic's largest investors. Now, five billion are to follow first, with another 20 billion US dollars to come "in the future". As part of the cooperation, it is also planned that Anthropic will train its AI technology Claude on Amazon's Trainium chips. The AI company has secured the option, according to its own statement, to "purchase future generations of Amazon’s custom silicon as they become available".

The agreement between Amazon and Anthropic follows just two months after a similar one with OpenAI, which even includes up to 50 billion US dollars from the online retailer. Anthropic's technology has caught up enormously in recent months, while at the same time the conflict with the Pentagon and the US government as a whole has caused unrest. Because the AI company had drawn red lines for the use of its technology by the US military, it was classified as a security risk for supply chains. Anthropic has now taken legal action against this. At the same time, however, the company caused a stir with the introduction of Claude Mythos Preview, which is considered too dangerous for publication. Therefore, there are already new discussions.
