Dubai completes world's first commercial vertiport for eVTOLs
The vertiport for eVTOLs in Dubai is technically complete. The first commercial flights are scheduled for 2026. Another vertiport is already under construction.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Skyports Infrastructure have technically completed the world's first commercial vertiport at Dubai Airport. Skyport announced this. The vertiport for handling eVTOLs for the transport of passengers and cargo is now ready for flight operations of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
The vertiport is attached to the city of Dubai's airport. eVTOLs can thus cover the city of Dubai by air taxis for passenger transport, but also for the rapid transport of goods, and short-haul flights of regional air traffic can be carried out. The airport is connected to public transport via the Emirates Metro Station. In addition, a multi-story car park integrated into the vertiport is available.
The vertiport in Dubai has a total area of 3100 m², spread over four floors. The main passenger terminal and central air traffic control are combined in one building. The vertiport comprises two separate runways designed for the needs of eVTOLs.
The charging infrastructure is provided by the eVTOL aviation company Joby Aviation as a project partner. The chargers of the Global Electric Aviation Charging System (GEACS) developed by Joby enable fast charging of the air taxis, so that they can be quickly made ready for the next mission. This is necessary to operate the vertiport cost-effectively and thus successfully.
Up to 42,000 flights annually
The eVTOL airport is designed for high capacities. RTA and Skyports speak of up to 42,000 flight movements annually. This would correspond to around five flights per hour around the clock. Approximately 170,000 passengers could be handled this way. The vertiport is already designed so that conventional helicopters can also take off and land there. The hybrid use was developed in cooperation with the local General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The eVTOL flights can be booked via the Joby Aviation app. The entire check-in process is automated to minimize waiting times for boarding. To make any waiting times more pleasant, the vertiport has luxurious lounge facilities.
However, the vertiport in Dubai is only one component of a total of four hubs. The other three vertiports are being built in Dubai Marina, Dubai Mall, and Palm Jumeirah. Dubai Marina is already under construction, and construction work at Dubai Mall and on Palm Jumeirah will begin in the coming months. The RTA and Skyports do not provide more precise details.

The construction of the vertiport in Dubai was preceded by various simulations to assess flight movements and their impact on airspace. In addition, the flight performance of the eVTOLs under the prevailing environmental conditions was evaluated through test flights. The tests were completed in June 2025.
The Dubai vertiport is now ready to commence its commercial flight operations. The first air taxi movements are still planned for 2026.
