Microsoft reports access problems with the mail service Outlook or Hotmail on iOS. The system's default mail app is affected. Users need to take action to resolve the issue.
Microsoft writes this in the Microsoft 365 Cloud Status. The company states that iOS users may have issues accessing Outlook and Hotmail with the default mail app. It adds that iOS users on iPhones need to perform a few steps to re-enter their password and thus regain access to their accounts.
Step-by-step guide
iOS users will also receive assistance from Redmond. A step-by-step guide helps to restore access:
- Open “Settings” on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap on “Mail”
- In the Mail settings, select “Accounts”
- Select the mail account for which the password needs to be reset
- Tap on “Account Settings” or directly on the “Password” field (depending on the iOS version)
- Enter the updated or correct password in the password field
- Tap “Done”
- Open the Mail app and check if the account is syncing correctly again and emails can be sent again.
Microsoft states that iOS users must perform these steps to resolve the issue. The company confirmed that the Outlook and Hotmail service became normally available again once users with the issue followed these steps.

Microsoft last admitted to specific issues with Outlook.com and Outlook clients for private customers in July of last year. However, server-side changes were sufficient to restore access at that time. Users did not have to take any action.
