According to media reports, the discounter Aldi Süd is cutting around 1250 jobs at its headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The majority of these are said to be in the international IT and digital division, Aldi DX.
“The goal is to reduce around 1250 positions by the end of 2027,” the discounter told Lebensmittel Zeitung. “Aldi Süd has always optimized processes and structures.” In this context, the company has now announced that it will implement a voluntary program in the Aldi International Services division for the first time. According to the report, jobs are also being cut in international purchasing.

When asked, the Aldi Süd holding company in Salzburg merely stated: “We do not comment on internal matters or speculation.” Aldi International Services is the international service and administrative division of Aldi Süd, where central functions such as IT and purchasing are bundled. According to the company, around 3900 people are still employed at Aldi DX.
IT tasks outsourced
As reported by Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ), citing insiders, the workforce at the Mülheim site is to be reduced to 2300 by the end of 2027. Aldi DX intends to outsource some tasks, mainly to Hungary. Team sizes are to shrink by 25 to 30 percent. The management structure is also to be thinned out, with about 40 percent of directors and 30 percent of managers expected to leave Aldi DX.
According to WAZ, Aldi DX already cut 400 jobs in Mülheim last year. At that time, IT tasks were outsourced to service providers from the Indian Tata Group. According to reports, Aldi Süd had increased its IT department to over 4000 employees at times in recent years. For this purpose, a separate company called Aldi DX was also founded in November 2024. The strategy of bundling competencies there is now apparently history.
