Nintendo Switch 2 will be more expensive
Nintendo is increasing the price for the Nintendo Switch 2: instead of 470, it will cost 500 euros in the future.

Now Nintendo too: After Microsoft and Sony have already increased the prices for their consoles after release, the Switch 2 is also said to cost more. Nintendo informs about this in a statement. The recommended retail price for the handheld console in Europe is therefore said to rise from 470 to 500 euros.
In the USA, the price is even increasing by 50 US dollars to 500 US dollars. In Japan, the home market, even the first generation of the Nintendo Switch is said to become more expensive – in Europe and the USA, however, only the price for the Switch 2 is increasing. The subscription costs for Nintendo Switch Online are also increasing exclusively in Japan.
Nintendo justifies the decision with “various changes in market conditions” that could persist in the medium to long term. The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 had already caused skepticism among fans at its market launch last year; the first generation of the console cost 330 euros at its market launch. The Switch 2 was therefore already 140 euros pricier. Now the gap is widening even further.
Prices only from September 1st
Anyone who wants to buy a Switch 2 still has some time to grab it at a lower recommended retail price: the new prices will only apply from September 1st – only in Japan will prices increase in May. Currently, the Switch 2 in Germany can be obtained below the RRP. It is not certain that retailers will actually charge the increased prices set by Nintendo. However, it is possible that the increased RRP will also affect street prices.

Customs duties, impaired supply chains, and the storage crisis are also impacting other hardware manufacturers. Sony recently announced the third price increase for the Playstation 5 since its market launch in autumn 2020. Sony recommends a price of 650 euros for a normal Playstation 5 – one hundred euros more than before and 150 euros more than at the start of sales. In May 2025, Microsoft added 50 euros to the recommended prices for the Xbox Series X and Series S.
