Sony is increasing the prices of one- and three-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in selected regions starting Wednesday. The price increases apply to new customers. Sony cites the current market situation as the reason.
Starting May 20, one-month subscriptions will cost from $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99, and three-month subscriptions from $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99. The company announced this on Monday in a social media post. According to Sony, existing subscribers (except in Turkey and India) are not affected by the price change, “unless the existing subscription is changed or expires.”
Playstation Plus is Sony's official subscription service for PlayStation consoles and PC. In Germany, the price for a one-month Essential subscription will increase by one euro (previously €8.99) and for a three-month Essential subscription by three euros (previously €24.99).

The price increase for PlayStation Plus subscriptions follows a recent worldwide price increase for the PlayStation 5 console – the third price increase since the PS5 generation was launched in autumn 2020. Sony justified the price increase for the PS5 in April with the “ongoing pressure in the global economic landscape.” The price increase was a necessary step to continue offering “innovative and high-quality gaming experiences,” according to Sony's Vice President of Marketing, Isabelle Tomatis.
The console manufacturer is particularly under pressure due to the memory crisis. The release of the PlayStation 6 could therefore be postponed to 2028 or even 2029. The background is rising prices and supply bottlenecks for memory components such as RAM and SSDs. Recently, there has also been trouble in the PlayStation community, as several users claimed that PS5 games require an online DRM check every 30 days.
