US company Uber has increased its stake in the food delivery service Delivery Hero to 19.5 percent. As stated in a mandatory announcement published by the Berlin-based company on Monday, Uber also holds options on a further 5.6 percent of the shares. According to the announcement, Uber is pursuing “financial and strategic goals” with the purchase but currently does not intend to exceed the control threshold of 30 percent of the voting rights.

Previously, the US group's stake was seven percent after it had bought Delivery Hero shares for 270 million euros from then major shareholder Prosus in April. The investment continues a consolidation phase in the industry. Last year, competitor DoorDash, for example, took over the British delivery service Deliveroo.

Delivery Hero is also undergoing extensive personnel changes at the management level. Last week, long-time CEO Niklas Ă–stberg announced his resignation. The move followed pressure from investor Aspex Management, which had previously increased its stake in the delivery service and called for a change in leadership.
