Plex triples price for lifetime pass
Anyone who wants to use the Plex Pass for a lifetime can buy a Lifetime Pass for 230 Euros. However, it will soon cost three times as much.

Plex is tripling the price of its lifetime Plex Pass subscription: instead of the previous 250 US dollars, it will cost a full 750 US dollars starting July 1st, according to the operators of the media server. The lifetime pass has so far undermined the subscription model; Plex justifies the drastic step. They had therefore considered completely removing the lifetime pass. Instead, they decided to choose a price that reflects the “real, ongoing value of the software.”
“Over the years, as our software and product has evolved, the breadth of features and benefits included with your Plex Pass has expanded,” the company writes. “This increase ensures we can continue to invest resources into building and maintaining the Plex personal media software while continuing to offer a lifetime option.”
Euro price also to rise
In the announcement, Plex exclusively mentions the changes in US prices but points out that price increases are also pending in other markets. In Germany, the Plex Pass for a lifetime currently costs 230 euros. If the costs rise in relation to the US price, it would come to just under 700 Euros.

To access your own media database remotely, i.e., from a network other than the media server's home network, a Plex subscription has been necessary since last year. This subscription is available in two versions. The Remote Watch Pass for 2 euros per month or 20 euros per year allows the subscriber to access content without restriction outside the home network.

The Plex Pass for 6 euros per month or 60 euros per year allows all users of a database provided by the subscriber to access content without restriction outside the home network. It also comes with some convenience features, such as the ability to skip intros.
Still at the old price until July 1st
Only with the Plex Pass is there also the option of a lifetime subscription, which can be used without restriction after a one-time payment. With its price of 230 euros, it previously corresponded to the value of about four annual subscriptions. If the price triples, buyers would have to be very sure – even eleven annual subscriptions would then be cheaper.
Anyone who has already purchased a Plex Pass for life will keep it without restrictions. In addition, Plex users have until July 1st to purchase the Plex Lifetime Pass under the previous conditions. The operators currently do not intend to adjust the monthly and annual prices of the Plex subscriptions.
Alternative tools like Jellyfin currently allow remote streaming at no cost. You can also try using VPNs to bypass remote streaming restrictions.
