Trump Mobile apparently inadequately protects customer data

There appears to be a data leak at Trump Mobile: the provider of the T1 Phone may only be inadequately protecting customer data. A YouTuber reports that customer data was leaked to him.

In a video on his channel Voidzilla, Stephen Findeisen said that he was provided with his order data for the T1 Phone from an anonymous source. This included name, phone number, email, and postal address. However, the credit card number was not included.

Findeisen, who performs under the pseudonym Coffeezilla, became known for exposing various internet scams, including those related to cryptocurrencies. In the video, he advises against placing an order with Trump Mobile until the matter is clarified.

Access to all customer data

Findeisen's data set is reportedly not the only one the anonymous hacker claims to have copied: According to Findeisen, he claimed to have access to all customer data. He also claimed to have been able to place fraudulent orders. The Verge reports, citing Findeisen and another YouTuber who claims to have also been contacted. An inquiry from The Verge to Trump Mobile went unanswered.

If the hacker's claims are true and the data set provided to Findeisen is complete, then Trump Mobile has about 10,000 customers who have placed about 30,000 orders. However, this may not only include the T1 Phone but also the mobile service “47 Plan”. These numbers differ significantly from Trump Mobile's statements: the company claimed several months ago to have several hundred thousand pre-orders. A pre-order requires a payment of 100 US dollars.

The T1 Phone was introduced in June of last year, along with a mobile service plan. After several delays, the first units were delivered recently.

Pompous Gold Look

It is offered by the Trump Organization, a holding company for various businesses and real estate owned by US President Donald Trump. It is designed in a pompous gold look according to his taste, with a US flag and the lettering “Trump Mobile” underneath. However, the Stars and Stripes are incomplete: there are only eleven stripes, two are missing.

The smartphone features a Snapdragon 7 processor, a 6.8-inch display, and 512 GB of storage. The operating system is Android 15. Truth Social, the social media service founded by Donald Trump, is pre-installed. The device is equipped with a headphone jack, which is now uncommon. The T1 Phone costs 500 US dollars. Its appearance and specifications are very similar to an HTC smartphone from two years ago.

The Trump Organization advertised the smartphone by stating that it was manufactured entirely in the USA. However, this is nonsense, as the necessary infrastructure is not available there – Apple, for example, manufactures the components for its mobile phones in China, India, and Taiwan, among other places. It is now only mentioned that the smartphone is assembled in the USA.
