ProcessOS: Agentic OS optimizes business processes
At its home conference, Camunda announced an agentic operating system that is intended to independently learn from and improve business processes.

Camunda announced the agentic operating system ProcessOS at its home conference. As an intelligence layer for the previous Camunda platform, it is intended to recognize existing business processes, reconceive them based on defined business outcomes, and continuously optimize them using performance indicators. ProcessOS generates complete process artifacts, such as BPMN models, data mappings, agent prompts, decision rules, and UI forms.
Technical foundation in Camunda 8.9
The intelligence layer builds on Camunda 8.9, released in April. With the update, the Berlin-based company expanded its orchestration platform with an integrated MCP server in the Orchestration Cluster. It also added agent-to-agent connectors, enabling communication between different AI agents.
Furthermore, Camunda 8.9 includes enhanced process migration for ad-hoc subprocesses – those BPMN constructs that make dynamic agent behavior practical in running instances. In addition, there are BPMN conditional events, which allow processes to react to an agent's assessments or anomalies without having to hardwire the path.
ProcessOS learns how companies work
According to the provider, ProcessOS maintains a growing knowledge base. It includes design patterns, connectors, and process policies. With each new process, it is intended to gain new information so that the intelligence layer develops an understanding of the company's procedures.
For enterprise use, the manufacturer targets three governance properties: Visual BPMN models are intended to show where artificial intelligence acts independently and where humans are involved. Humans are also intended to review every process change before it goes into productive use. In addition, the system is intended to preferentially reuse tested patterns and connectors.
Deep AWS integration
ProcessOS runs natively on Amazon Web Services and is integrated into numerous AWS services, including Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore for Foundation Models, Agent Memory, and Identity and Gateway services. Reference architectures for the AWS services EKS, ECS, and EC2 are also available.

ProcessOS is available immediately as a closed beta for selected companies. Interested parties can join a waiting list via the Camunda website. The company has not yet announced a specific release date for the final version. Most recently, Red Hat also introduced an operating system intended to serve as a basis for AI agents.
