Microsoft released the preview versions of the Windows updates for June during the night to Wednesday. It brings faster app startup, but there are also already known installation problems, including with error code 0x800f0922, which has been known since the May security update.

A Microsoft support article lists the planned changes: if major issues arise, problematic components will naturally be temporarily removed before the June patch day on June 9, 2026. This includes, for example, the further distribution of updated Secure Boot certificates, as the old ones expire in June. In this context, the update provides a group policy “LimitSecureBootRequiredServiceData,” which, when activated, apparently reduces the telemetry data sent to Microsoft regarding Secure Boot.

More interesting for end users, however, are the functions that will be activated gradually in a phased rollout. This includes the low-latency mode, which Microsoft lists under “General Performance”: “This update speeds up app startup and key shell functions such as Start menu, Search, and Action Center.” The other functions also sound as if they have arrived in the generally available preview version of Windows, as expected from the Insider preview channel.

In low-latency mode, Windows increases the processor clock speed when clicking the Start menu or starting an app, which is said to bring noticeable acceleration and also a tangible responsiveness to the system. However, there are no switches for the function; only a look at the Task Manager when starting an app might provide clues about the activated function. It is currently unclear whether the previously valid ViVe tool IDs will also work in the regular update preview to force the activation of the feature.

Further functions include shared Bluetooth LE audio, which supplies two supported headphones simultaneously with the same audio stream. The screen magnifier works better with screen readers. CPUs with built-in AI coprocessors (NPUs) get a more detailed NPU view in the Task Manager. Multiple apps can now access the camera simultaneously.

The problem with the installation of the update, which can fail with error code 0x800f0922, is also inherited by the preview of the June update. The trigger is insufficient space on the EFI system partition. Microsoft provides affected users with hints in the support article on how to solve the problem.

Windows can find the update in Settings under “Windows Update” after clicking the “Check for updates” button. If the “Get the latest updates as soon as they're available” function is active, Windows should have already downloaded and partially installed the update automatically; a restart prompt will then appear.
