iOS 27 Leaks and Renderings: Apple Merges Siri with iPhone Search
Siri has already received a fresh coat of paint with Apple Intelligence, but couldn't deliver the promised AI innovations. iOS 27 should fix that soon.

Siri will likely reside in the Dynamic Island from now on: For iOS 27, Apple is reportedly planning another redesign of the voice assistant system and a merger with the previously separate, system-wide search function. A new gesture will allow the Siri interface to be opened from the top of the screen in the future, as the financial news agency Bloomberg reports, citing informed sources. According to renderings of the user interface being tested internally at Apple, a search bar for “Search or ask” appears at the top of the screen.
Siri and Search Combined
In this menu, Apple will also integrate familiar functions of the Spotlight search, including Siri app suggestions and the option to search local files. Siri can also still be activated via Siri voice command or by pressing the Standby button and will also display the new interface. Whether all iPhone search queries will be processed by an AI model in the future and in which cloud the latter runs remains unclear for now.
According to the report, Apple also plans to integrate other AI services, similar to how it currently does with ChatGPT. However, the current integration in iOS is poor: older GPT models only provide short answers that disappear irretrievably if the user touches the screen elsewhere, intentionally or unintentionally. Search results are to be saved in the future in a new, standalone Siri app on the iPhone, writes Bloomberg.

Apple allegedly intends to deliver the Siri innovations originally announced for iOS 18 with iOS 27. It was promised, for example, that Siri can query personal data and perform actions across app boundaries. The voice assistant system will also be able to find and summarize current content on the web for the first time – a standard function for other chatbots for a long time.
AI Analysis in iPhone Camera App
In addition to merging Siri and Search, another AI function is to merge with one of the most popular iPhone apps: According to the report, “visual intelligence” for analyzing image content will become another mode in the camera app. For the latter, Apple plans to make functions more flexibly customizable for the user with a widget system.
It remains to be seen how good Apple's new AI models, which will be based on Google Gemini in the future, will be. In addition to more developed local AI models, Apple will continue to rely on the cloud. Observers currently do not expect the company to be able to handle this solely with its in-house Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. Accordingly, it remains unclear for now which servers Apple Intelligence will use to process user data in the future and how it will be protected. According to The Information, Siri will soon also rely on Google Cloud, and Apple recently concluded a deal with Nvidia on GPU Confidential Computing, it says there.
