Spotify has announced a series of improvements for its mobile app. These include several features like playlist folders, which were previously only available on desktop.
Previously, users could only group playlists into folders in the desktop app. This feature is now available to all users worldwide in the mobile app as well, Spotify reports. Folders can be created based on mood, activity, or genre.
Bulk-editing for playlists and queue
In playlists, you can now edit multiple tracks simultaneously; this also works for podcast episodes and audiobooks. According to Spotify, the update is currently being rolled out to all users worldwide. For Premium subscribers, the ability to select and manage multiple tracks in the queue simultaneously is also returning.

Premium users on iOS will be able to download music and podcasts in the background in the future, even when the app is not open. Progress notifications will indicate the status. Those who want to reshuffle the current order in shuffle mode will now find a separate button for this – instead of having to disable and re-enable shuffle as before. The feature is available to Premium subscribers on mobile devices worldwide.
The new Spotify features stand in contrast to many of the other functions Spotify has announced in recent months. The focus has been primarily on AI features, including several ways to create playlists using AI. Additionally, Spotify has announced a separate desktop app that can build personalized podcasts and briefings using an AI agent. As an example prompt, Spotify mentions creating a travel briefing: the agent should go through the day's plan from the calendar, provide restaurant recommendations near the planned stops, and generate a podcast for the journey.
