"Fable" delayed to February 2027: Xbox avoids "GTA 6"

The open-world role-playing game “Fable” by Playground Games will not be released as planned in Autumn 2026, but only in February 2027. Microsoft's console division Xbox announced the delay on Friday in a post on X.

Microsoft cites a crowded game calendar in the current year as the reason: Xbox players can look forward to numerous great games, writes Microsoft. In addition to Xbox exclusives such as “Halo: Campaign Evolved,” “Gears of War: E-Day,” and “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4,” Microsoft also lists “GTA 6,” which will be released on November 19th.

To give “Fable” an undisturbed launch, it will be postponed to February 2027, according to the post, “so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.”

Game spoiler: “GTA 6”

Many game companies plan the releases of their games in such a way that they absolutely do not interfere with “GTA 6.” A simultaneous release with “GTA 6” would mean, among other things, less attention in traditional media and on social media. After the release of “GTA 6” had been postponed several times, it is now becoming apparent that the game will actually go on sale on November 19th. Other developers now have to decide whether to avoid the period widely or hope that their game will find its niche despite the “GTA” release.

No specific release date had been confirmed for “Fable,” but an autumn window for 2026 was mentioned. The series has been largely dormant since Microsoft closed Lionhead Studios in 2016. Developer Playground Games, the studio behind the “Forza Horizon” series, showed gameplay scenes from “Fable” in February. On June 7th, Microsoft intends to show further material of the upcoming role-playing game.
