JavaLand-Speaker VI: Interview mit Jim Weaver
Markus Eisele hat ein Gespräch mit Jim Weaver über dessen Erwartungen zum JavaLand, der neuen Java-Community-Konferenz, geführt.

Das JavaLand rückt immer näher. Also der Termin, an dem die neue Java-Konferenz erstmalig im Phantasialand in Brühl stattfindet. Ich habe schon ein wenig in den vergangenen Wochen darüber berichtet und möchte die Chance nutzen, nach und nach ein Paar der Speaker vorzustellen, die sich mit ihren Vorträgen an dem vielfältigen Programm beteiligen. Heute ist es Jim Weaver.

Jim ist schon seit langem als Java- und JavaFX-Entwickler bekannt. Er spricht auf Konferenzen zu den Themen Rich- und Native Clients und hat diverse Bücher verfasst. Er ist seit über 15 Jahren als System-Architekt unterwegs und gehört seit einiger Zeit auch zum Evangelisten-Team bei Oracle. Have you ever been to Germany before and where? What did you takeaway as best/worst memory?
Yes, München. Best memory: Having drinks with Java developer friends like Toni Epple and Gerrit Grunwald outdoors in the early evening before a conference. Worse memory: Coming to the stark realization those funny sounding bells are on bicycles that would like to run you over because you are walking in the bicycle lane :-).
If you'd be asked to describe the conference atmosphere in Germany generally what would you say?
The conference atmosphere in Germany from my experience is very professional, cordial, and respectful. As a Java/JavaFX community leader I have realized for a while that the epicenter of expert, passionate, JavaFX developers is Germany. In my JavaFX Apps in the Real World session (25-March 11:00) at JavaLand I have the privilege and pleasure of co-presenting with several developers from the area. These developers are Alexander Casall, Dirk Lemmermann, Gerrit Grunwald, Robert Ladstaetter, Michael Hoffer and Jens Deters. I am very excited to reconnect with these dear friends and to share the stage with them.
What was the most uncommon location for a developer conference you've been to in the past? How does the theme park idea of JavaLand compares to it for you.
The CodeMash conference in Ohio, US, is held at an indoor waterpark, so that is perhaps the most uncommon location. I love the idea of having a conference at a theme park and am looking forward to JavaLand!
