For IRCNet users and sysops that don't understand German but are interested in this issue, we provide an English translation of the above news story: IRCNet Strike Widens

After yesterday's announcement that the German IRCNet will go on a 32-hour lasting token strike, IRCNet administrators from around the world want to support the operation initiated by the German admins. German IRCNet coordinator Volker Paulsen said today that all Norwegish, Swedish, Danish, Austrian and Dutch servers will go offline on Friday at noon. France and Italy will partially support the strike. Talks to other administrators in Russia and Finland are still in progress. Even the largest US IRCNet provider irc.stealth.net sympathizes with the German administrators; Stealth Communications will block its server for German IPs and possibly deny further connections via so called K-Lines. "The German servers have always been among the most organized and most carefully administered ones. I view the strike as an interesting means of getting the public to know what actually goes on behind the scenes, the denial of service attacks by so called Script-Kiddies for instance", said Ville Hakomäki, Administrator of irc.stealth.net, to c't. Meanwhile, the IRC community is reacting with mixed feelings to the token strike; users interested in a discussion may join the channel #streik in IRCNet.
