The Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn has started mass production of electric cars. The first model is an all-electric SUV called the Model C, of which 2,000 units have already been delivered in the first four months of this year. The company expects to deliver more than 10,000 Model Cs for 2024 as a whole. Series production of a more compact model, the sporty Model B crossover, is set to begin next year.
Foxconn had already announced its entry into e-car production in fall 2021 and presented a sedan, SUV and bus. A joint venture called Foxtron was founded with the Taiwanese Yulon Motor Group for this purpose. Production of the e-buses and electric motors began in 2022, and the electric bus called the Model T can already be seen in practical use on Taiwanese roads.

The Model C is the first car to be built on the new platform developed by Foxconn. It is 4.64 m long and has a wheelbase of 2.86 m. The SUV should be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a full battery charge should last 700 km. It should be able to seat up to seven people. This model is likely to be aimed primarily at the domestic market, where Tesla dominates the electric car market.
Model B as a compact e-SUV
The Model C will be followed by the Model B, as Foxconn explained at a shareholders' meeting. According to the statement, preparations for mass production of the sporty Model B crossover will be completed in the fourth quarter. This is practically a more compact version of the Model C, which was presented at a Foxconn event in February of this year. Pre-orders for the Model B should be possible in 2025, but technical data and prices are not yet known.
These electric cars are based on various platforms that Foxconn also offers to other companies in order to save development costs. The company's own models, developed and manufactured with Yulon, are intended to demonstrate the potential in research and development as well as in production. Ultimately, they could be built for potential customers such as Fisker. However, Fisker's production company is insolvent, so the future of this brand is unclear. Foxconn may find other cooperation partners for its e-car platforms if the Model C and Model B are successful.
