The Doom Guy is transported to a fantasy version of the Middle Ages as a weapon of the gods: Microsoft has announced "Doom: The Dark Ages" for 2025. The title will be released for PCs, Xbox and Playstation 5 - the next "Doom" title will therefore also be playable for Sony fans, just like its predecessors.

'Doom: The Dark Ages' follows on from 'Doom Eternal', which was launched in 2020 as the successor to 'Doom' (2016). It is the third modern 'Doom' game and, judging by the trailer, will continue the gameplay tradition of the two previous titles: Brutal shooter action with melee elements will once again take center stage.
Origin story of the Doom Guy
"The Dark Ages" will tell the origin story of the Doom Slayer, writes developer id Software. There are not yet many further details. A chainsaw is replaced by a perfectly medieval chainsaw shield. The Doom Guy also gets melee weapons to take on fantasy beasts.
Despite the medieval scenario, the Doom Slayer does not have to do without shotguns and the like. Occasionally, players can also climb into a mech to cause chaos among the demons of hell. There is not yet an exact release date for "Doom: The Dark Ages" beyond "2025". However, Microsoft is promising to offer the new game as part of its Game Pass subscription in time for the launch.
The PS5 release of "Doom: The Dark Ages" shows once again that Microsoft is increasingly offering its own productions on its rival console from Sony. The company announced this change in strategy at the beginning of the year. When 'Doom Eternal' came onto the market, id Software was not yet part of Microsoft. The long-established studio only joined the Xbox manufacturer in 2021 as part of the Bethesda deal.
