The third beta of Android 15 can now be downloaded. Beta 3 of the mobile operating system heralds platform stability, so it behaves in much the same way as the upcoming finished version. Because the APIs are ready, developers can now start testing their apps for Android 15.
There are no major new features in beta 3 compared to previous versions, Google confirms in a blog post. Only the passkey interface has been revised by Google so that it now requires one less action.
In general, comparatively few new features are to be expected in the new version of Android. Google released the first beta in April, in which apps were displayed borderless by default for the first time. System bars are displayed transparently. In addition, all applications can now be archived to save storage space. Previously, this only worked with packages from the Play Store, but in future it will also be possible with APKs. The system now also manages keys for end-to-end encryption.

New security functions in Android 15
Google announced the second beta of Android 15 at I/O in May. It brought with it several new security features, including a digital data vault called "Private Space" for sensitive apps. Applications stored there can be secured with an additional PIN. This prevents unauthorized persons holding the unlocked cell phone from accessing it. Notifications from apps in the private space can also be hidden.

Another new feature is a type of theft protection: if the motion sensors in the cell phone detect that the smartphone has been snatched from the hand and the thief is now fleeing, the smartphone is automatically locked. Alternatively, Android phones can be remotely locked, located or, if necessary, reset to factory settings using the "Find my device" function.
Google had announced the third beta for June or July, so the company is well on schedule. The final version is expected in late summer or early fall. Users of some Android smartphones can already download the beta now.
