A security vulnerability in AMI's BIOS code threatens countless desktop PC models from HP. Security patches close the vulnerability.

As the PC manufacturer lists in a warning message, countless desktop computers are affected by the vulnerability (CVE-2024-4143 "high"). These include models from the All-in-One and Pavilion series.

If attackers successfully exploit the BIOS vulnerability, they should be able to execute malicious code. It is currently not known how such an attack could take place. Anyone who owns an HP PC should take a close look at the list of affected models and install the appropriate BIOS security update.
