Deutsche Telekom increased its revenue and profit in the past quarter. Revenue grew by 4.3 percent to 28.39 billion euros in the months from April to June compared to the same period last year. This is more than industry observers had previously expected. Adjusted for special effects, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization including leasing costs (EBITDA AL) increased by 7.8 percent to 10.8 billion euros.
At the end of June, Telekom had 65.19 million mobile customers in Germany, 3 percent more than three months previously. Of these, 25.8 million are contract customers and 39.3 million are prepaid customers. The number of fixed-network lines shrank by 0.2 percent to 17.2 million. The number of broadband lines grew by 0.7% to 15.1 million, 12 million of which are fiber optic lines.
US business continues to grow
The number of T-Mobile US postpaid customers grew by 4.2 percent to 125.9 million. Of these, 100.6 million are postpaid customers and 25.3 million are prepaid customers. Deutsche Telekom exceeded expectations with the number of new customers. Mobile service revenue also increased accordingly - telecommunications companies earn significantly more from this type of revenue than from low-margin hardware.

Meanwhile, the European Football Championship in Germany and a new regulation for cable connections had a positive effect on the number of TV customers. This grew by 2.6% to 4.5 million.
"By the end of the first half of 2024, our 5G network will be available to 97 percent of the population in Germany and a total of 8.8 million households and companies will be able to book a fiber-optic connection with us," writes Deutsche Telekom in its half-year report (PDF). Deutsche Telekom continues to expect an adjusted operating profit (EBITDA AL) of 42.9 billion euros for the full financial year.
