Version 14.4 of the open source project management software OpenProject introduces new features and detailed improvements, including an optional dark mode with a light font on a dark background. The feature was particularly popular with the community, explain the makers of OpenProject.

The display mode is available in the account settings, although this only changes the user interface for the individual user and not for the entire instance. However, the display mode is currently still in a beta phase. Although extensive testing has been carried out, unforeseen behavior may still occur. A dark mode, as recently introduced on the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, for example, can reduce power consumption on OLED displays - apart from that, it is probably primarily an aesthetic question of what users find more pleasant.

Version 14.4 also brings new permissions for viewing and editing project attributes and project progress can now be tracked in whole percentage values instead of in increments of ten as before. There is now also an option for admins to test Nextcloud connections. Project lists have additional filter options.

Furthermore, it should now be possible for OpenID clients such as Nextcloud servers to use access tokens from OpenID providers such as Keycloak as an authentication mechanism for the OpenProject API. Logging and error messages for project folder synchronization services have also been improved. An overview of all changes can be found in the release notes for the new version 14.4 of the open source tool.
