The maintainers of the anonymizing Linux distribution have given version 6.6 of Tails improved hardware support and an accelerated Tails cloner. The Tails 6.5 version released in mid-July has also brought the base up to the level of Debian 12.6.
The developers of Tails released the new version last week. According to the release notes, they have updated many firmware packages in particular, which should improve support for newer hardware such as graphics cards, WLAN dongles and so on. When first booting from a USB stick, Tails also recognizes new error types when changing the size of the system partition and displays an error message. Anyone affected by this should reinstall Tails or try a different USB stick.
Tails: Software up to date
The central software components are also up to date: The Tor browser is included in version 13.5.2, Thunderbird in version 115.14.0. Other minor corrections concern the maximum waiting time for unlocking the persistent storage, which has now been set to four minutes. The creation of the persistent storage should now be more stable. It should also no longer freeze when a link to the documentation is opened. With regard to the network functions, the developers have corrected the connection to the Tor network with the standard bridges. They once again support multiple network interfaces. The programmers have removed a 30-second waiting time from the Tails cloner before the cloning process, which should speed it up noticeably.

Tails 6.5 was also released in mid-July, where the Tails cloner is also said to have been accelerated by 30 seconds and the Linux distribution has been switched to Debian 12.6. According to the version announcement, the problems that have been fixed include the connection via mobile broadband, LTE and PPPoE-DSL.
As usual, the current Tails 6.6 version is available as an image for transporting on USB sticks for your pocket or as an ISO image for burning to DVD or for the virtual machine.
Tails 6.4 was released in mid-June, bringing improvements to the cryptography used and correcting some problems.
