Fairphone 5: Cheaper model with less memory presented
Fairphone reduces prices: A new variant of the Fairphone 5 with less memory costs 550 euros. The larger model is also becoming more affordable.

Fairphone makes the Fairphone 5 more affordable. The company has unveiled a new model of the Fairphone 5 with less memory, which is 80 euros cheaper than the top model. Instead of 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory, the smaller model is equipped with 6 GB of main memory and 128 GB of flash. Fairphone is asking 549 euros for it. At the same time, Fairphone has reduced the RRP for the 8/256 GB model from 699 to 629 euros.
Apart from the memory, the models do not differ. Like its sister model, the manufacturer also intends to provide the "new" Fairphone 5 with eight years of security updates and five operating system updates.
Easy to repair
As always, the Fairphone is characterized by its ease of repair. Many components can be replaced. The battery and plastic back can be replaced completely without tools, while a simple Phillips screwdriver is sufficient for other repairs. The spare part prices range from 20 euros for the USB-C socket and earpiece to 100 euros for the screen. The main, ultra-wide-angle and front cameras, speakers and a component called the "top unit", which contains the SIM card tray and memory card slot, can also be replaced.

In the fifth generation, Fairphone uses an OLED display for the first time. This displays content with significantly higher contrast and deeper blacks than the IPS panel of its predecessor. A maximum brightness of slightly less than 600 cd/m2 was measured on the sister model. The screen displays a maximum of 90 hertz.
Inside is a Qualcomm QCM 6490, which is part of Qualcomm's Longevity Program and is supplied with updates for a correspondingly long time. The Fairphone takes photos and videos with a total of three cameras, one at the front and two at the back (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle). All are equipped with a 50 megapixel sensor.
