iOS 18, macOS 15 & Co: When Apple will release the new operating systems
The release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia and watchOS 11 is imminent. However, Apple Intelligence is a long time coming.
The final version of iOS 18 will be released next Monday, September 16. Apple announced this on Monday evening. The operating system update expands the options for personalization: users can place apps more freely on the home screen and optionally also colour them. There is also a dark mode that includes the app icons. The control center can also be freely configured and apps from third-party developers can contribute control elements for the first time.
Apple is also updating many of the pre-installed apps, including Messages. With Messenger, it will soon be possible to exchange RCS messages with Android users and to chat via iMessage using a satellite connection in North America.
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 run on these devices
iOS 18 leaves no iPhone behind: the update can be installed on all models running iOS 17. However, some of the new features are reserved for younger model series, which is particularly noticeable with Apple Intelligence: the AI package only runs on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. This time, there is also almost no older iPads; only the iPad 6 (2018) cannot install the update.

At the same time as iOS 18, watchOS 11 will also be released on September 16. The update primarily provides detailed improvements as well as new health and fitness functions, including an overview of the training load.
Apple is also releasing macOS 15 Sequoia earlier than usual, namely together with the other updates next Monday. However, one key new feature can only be used in the EU in a roundabout way for the time being: A new mirroring function allows you to operate your iPhone directly from your Mac, and macOS also displays iPhone notifications.

Apple Intelligence will follow later
The first Apple Intelligence functions will not follow until iOS 18.1 in October, as Apple confirmed on Monday. As things stand, the AI functions will only be introduced on macOS in the EU; they can be activated in iOS and iPadOS with a workaround. Things like image generation are apparently still missing. Initially, Apple Intelligence will only work in US English, with other English versions expected to follow by the end of the year. Apple has announced support for French and Spanish for 2025, but German has not been included.
