Cyberattacks affect spa clinic and US car rental company
A cyberattack on a clinic resulted in a data leak. In another case, 300,000 customers of a US car rental company were affected.

Klinik am Kurpark Reinhardshausen GmbH was the victim of a cyber attack on August 27. This resulted in a data leak, the extent of which is still unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
"We currently have to assume that personal data may have been affected by this incident," the clinic's website states. After the incident became known, the relevant authorities such as the police and data protection officer were informed immediately. The clinic also commissioned a cyber security company.
Despite the cyber attack, the general operation of the Klinik am Kurpark and the admission of patients was largely unaffected. The clinic will provide further information as soon as it is available.

Data breach at US car rental company
The "Avis Rent A Car System" in the USA is informing its customers about a data breach that occurred at the beginning of August. According to an information letter (PDF) sent to those affected, an attacker gained unauthorized access to the company's business applications. Avis told the Attorney General of Maine that almost 300,000 people were affected.
Upon learning of the incident, the company immediately blocked access and launched an investigation with external experts. Avis also informed the authorities and the Attorney General of Maine. The access is said to have taken place between August 3 and 6, with some personal data being accessed. The extent of the data leak is still unclear.
Avis is offering affected customers a free one-year membership to Equifax, a popular identity monitoring program in the US. Avis is also advising those affected to check their bank statements regularly, among other things.
