Viral word guessing game Wordle comes to VR glasses
The word guessing game Wordle is now also available in virtual reality: The New York Times has published a version for Meta's VR glasses.

The word guessing game Worlde became a viral hit in 2022 thanks to its entertaining game concept and new task every day. Until now, Wordle could only be played in the browser, whether on desktop or mobile. Now the New York Times, which bought Worlde 2022, has released its first app – for VR glasses from Meta, of all things.

The app can be downloaded free of charge from Meta's Quest Store. At its core, it is exactly the same version that you play in the browser. So you have six attempts to guess a five-letter word. There is a new puzzle to solve every day – only in VR. You choose the letters with the quest controller or simply by hand.
"Creative way to reach an audience"
"We're always looking for unique and creative ways to reach our audience with our games," says New York Times games director Jonathan Knight in Meta's Quest blog. "This collaboration demonstrates our enthusiasm for innovative technologies and exploring new formats and experiences like mixed reality." Wordle is perfect for virtual reality because of its simple interface, Knight explains.
Wordle was originally created by developer Josh Wardle. After the browser game became a viral hit with a new puzzle every day, the New York Times hit – for a low seven-figure sum, according to a press release at the time.

Both the browser version of Wordle and the new VR version can be played for free. However, because only a single puzzle is offered each day, you can usually finish it in just a few minutes. It is doubtful whether it is worth putting on VR glasses for this. However, it is conceivable that VR users will simply do a quick wordle before switching to their actual games.
