TelefĂłnica is changing its IPTV offering: unlike the previous offering, the new O2 TV does not require the integration of Waipu.tv. O2 TV offers access to 130 channels in HD quality and can be linked to the US streaming service Netflix.
O2 TV has been available since 2019, but it was simply a branded version of the IPTV service Waipu.tv, which was cheaper for O2 customers than the standard Waipu offer. The new O2 TV stands on its own two feet and will replace the previous O2 TV. However, nothing will change for existing customers: they can remain on their existing tariff "until further notice", TelefĂłnica announced.
The basic version of O2 TV costs EUR 7 per month. Those who also want to use the offer outside Germany in the EU will pay 10 euros per month. The more expensive variants of the tariff bundle O2's IPTV offer with Netflix, but are tied to a 12-month contract term. The full O2 TV package comes with the Netflix premium subscription and costs EUR 25 per month –, i.e. EUR 5 per month more than the stand-alone Netflix subscription.
Only for O2 customers
The catch: O2 TV can only be booked by customers who already have a landline or mobile contract with O2. This clearly distinguishes the TelefĂłnica offer from the competition. Telekom (Magenta TV) and Vodafone (Giga TV) also market their offers to users who are not customers of their own tariffs.

"With the abolition of the ancillary cost privilege for cable TV, millions of households are looking for an attractive alternative," says Telefónica manager Markus von Böhlen. "The new offer is also of interest to all other customers who want entertainment and Internet access from a single source."
O2 TV offers the option of pausing and restarting programs. 100 hours of material can be recorded. Up to four people can watch TV at the same time – both at home on the smart TV and on the move on smartphones and laptops. Telefónica promises that up to five user profiles can be created per account. It will also be possible to rent content such as blockbuster films from a video library.
