After Microsoft released the update preview for Windows 10 on Tuesday, the company has now also published the preview for Windows 11. The improvements remain manageable.
In a knowledgebase entry (KB5043145), Microsoft writes that local files can be shared directly from the search results when searching from the taskbar. However, the developers have removed the search function from the share function. If media is being played, playback controls now appear at the bottom center of the lock screen. If you want to log out of a user account in Windows, you now have to click on the logged-in user in the Start menu and then on the icon with the three dots.
Functions with gradual rollout
Microsoft intends to release these functions gradually. The "Microsoft Copilot Pro" option under "Settings" – "Accounts", for example, will be immediately visible to everyone, allowing users to test and subscribe to the function. Access data no longer needs to be entered more often in Outlook or other encrypted email apps, and the PIN is only requested once. Microsoft Edge could also occasionally hang up in IE mode and the same could happen in Task Manager if you switched from a high-contrast theme to a normal one. Windows 11 comes with the update to build version 22621.4249 or 22631.4249.

In the KB5043131 knowledgebase entry, Microsoft also explains the changes for Windows 10 with the update preview. The build version after the update is 19045.4957. As highlights, the developers state that the profile picture in the Start menu may be moved to a different position, and the background color in the left menu area will also change. There were also occasional problems with the Edge browser hacking in IE mode. In addition, the playback of media could be terminated if certain, unspecified surround sound technologies were used.
The Windows update preview from August brought more significant improvements. In particular, owners of computers with AMD processors benefited from the fact that the optimizations for branch prediction from the Zen 3 architecture onwards provided significant acceleration in some cases.
