The availability of Nvidia's fastest gaming graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4090, has been decreasing for weeks, accompanied by price increases. Available at short notice – i.e. not necessarily immediately – are 27 manufacturer cards from Asus, Gainward, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit and PNY – some of which are only available from one or two retailers and many exclusively from eBay stores.
Occasionally , you can still get away with less than 1,900 euros for an example that is available at short notice; however, prices are quickly rising towards 2,000 euros. For comparison: the recommended retail price is 1769 euros. Nvidia lists its own Founders Edition at this price, although it has not been available for some time. In the summer of 2023, some RTX 4090 cards reached a low price of less than 1600 euros, but had already risen again by the end of the year.
The GeForce RTX 4090 is the only Nvidia graphics card affected in this way. The next fastest graphics card, the GeForce RTX 4080 Super, is still widely available. Many models undercut Nvidia's 1099-euro MSRP, with the cheapest falling just short of the 1000-euro mark.

New rumors about GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080
The rumor mill continues to speculate about the specifications and release dates of the upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 and GeForce RTX 5080. However, the leaks should be viewed with caution, as there are many contradictory leaks circulating in advance, especially with Nvidia graphics cards.
The latest speculation comes from the X account "kopite7kimi", according to which only the GeForce RTX 5090 should be significantly different from the current generation. There is talk of 21,760 shader cores, 32 GB of GDDR7 RAM and an electrical power consumption of up to 600 watts (RTX 4090: 16,384 shaders, 24 GB GDDR6X, 450 watts).

According to the leak, the GeForce RTX 5080 would only have slightly more shader cores than the GeForce RTX 4080 and would remain with 16 GB of memory, with a power consumption of up to 400 watts.
It is questionable whether the first 5000 models will be released this year. Nvidia could also phase out the GeForce RTX 4090 in order to free up more production capacity for AI accelerators. These have a much higher margin than gaming graphics cards.
