Sunsets, flowering plants and clear night skies are some of the things that summer has to offer. Our photographers from the gallery have captured them in pictures so that you can remember them again now that fall is setting in and the temperatures are dropping.

Luminous dahlia

(Image: NAlois)

"During a discussion in the forum, the user vicia-faba mentioned that Hamburg has a dahlia garden worth seeing. It is always open and I decided to go on a photo tour from 6 p.m. when the sun was low. Inspired by a newsletter, I like to use a larger telephoto lens for flower photos, in this case my Tamron 50-400, which offers the advantage of being able to better overcome the distance to the flowers in public gardens," Alois Nagl (NAlois) tells us about his color-intensive composition.

The details of the flower are impressively detailed and the color gradient of the individual small leaves is very attractive. The background, with its mixture of green and orange, harmonizes very well with the somewhat lighter flower, which stands out in this way. The long focal length blurs the background and makes it appear less distant. This exposes the dahlia beautifully and allows it to take center stage.

Berlin

Purple, pink and a light orange create a dreamlike sunset in the picture "Berlin" by Sekundante. The blurred train in the foreground reflects the strong colors and draws the eye into the distance, towards the horizon, where the color spectacle takes place.

The Berlin television tower can be seen in the background, which sets the scene and reflects the title of the photograph. Meanwhile, the rails provide a rather rustic and industrial flair associated with the capital's surroundings.

Start

(Image: David Alberts)

David Alberts' picture "Start" is a bit confusing, because normally a person would be attached to such a paraglider. So you can't help but wonder whether someone has crashed here or whether the photographer has just chosen a clever perspective. All in all, it certainly looks a little bizarre.

The view of the valley and the striking clouds in the background are also impressive. The colors of the paraglider draw the eye and make it the center of attention.

"The picture was taken at the end of August in South Tyrol above Merano. It's actually a snapshot. I was on my way back from a hike when I noticed this picture," the photographer explains.

Veil Nebula (NGC 6960)

(Image: .ChristiaN.)

Christian Nagel (.ChristiaN.) shows an impressive astrophotography with the image "Veil Nebula" (NGC 6960). He explains: "This nebula consists of heated and ionized gas and dust and is located in the constellation Cygnus. This expanding cloud is a supernova remnant from a star that exploded 10,000 to 20,000 years ago. The Veil Nebula is favorably positioned in the sky in August, as its orbit is quite high and close to the zenith. This is advantageous for photographing deep-sky objects, as the atmosphere has less of an effect than with low-lying objects. I was therefore able to use four clear nights from the end of July to the end of August 2024 to collect a total of around seven and a half hours of usable exposure time."

A very interesting scene in which the colors come into their own against the black depth of space and harmonize wonderfully with each other.

Bee on the approach

(Image: nikkonwolf)

Gallery photographer nikkonwolf was able to capture a bee approaching. The shallow colors in the background enliven the picture and create a contrast to the insect so that it is well exposed. The shallow depth of field ensures that the head is particularly in focus and the rest of the body disappears slightly into the blur. The little hairs and details of the face are very easy to recognize and are just as impressive on closer inspection.

Bun

(Image: Lightpix84)

The boat in Lightpix84's picture is the focus of the shot. With the colorful flags and the contrast of its painting, it becomes the most striking object in the composition. The light orange of the sunset and the gradient of the blue sky complete the scene.

If you look very closely, you can see a lone seagull next to the boat, doing its rounds on the beach and probably looking for the next small snack. It enlivens the shot a little and adds a touch of imperfection and spontaneity.

Fern

(Image: camera66)

With an intense green and a beautiful depth of field, the picture Fern by camera66 is captivating. The focus on the details of the individual leaves places them at the center. The incident light makes it stand out more and the background exposes the main motif with its darker appearance.
