Google now also has an AI button for Chromebooks
Microsoft led the way with the Copilot button, now it's Google's turn. Samsung's Galaxy Chromebook Plus is the first to come with an AI button.

Samsung's Galaxy Chromebook Plus is set to usher in a new generation of notebooks with Google's ChromeOS operating system. The manufacturer wants to entice buyers with a 15.6-inch OLED display and new AI functions.
In addition to the integration of Google's Gemini chatbots in the taskbar, Chromebook Plus models will receive updates for a handful of other functions over the course of this October:
- "Formulate for me" ("Help me write"): shortens texts, rephrases them or puts them into certain formats. Can also be understood in German after an October update
- "Create an overview for me" ("Help me read"): summarizes PDFs, articles or websites, initially only in English. Updates to highlight individual paragraphs and with additional languages will follow in 2025
- Live translations including subtitles, for example in video meetings or live streams
- Microphone and camera improvements for a clearer voice and a prettier image
- Transcriptions in the recorder app
On upcoming Plus Chromebooks, some of the functions can be accessed via the new "Quick Insert" button, similar to Microsoft's Copilot button. Samsung's Galaxy Chromebook Plus is the first to integrate it instead of the Capslock key – Capslock still works together with Fn. On older models, Quick Insert can be used via the Launcher key + F combination. Next year, Google also wants to integrate an AI image generator in this context.
Google subscription required
The AI functions all run in the cloud. Google therefore requires a Google One AI Premium subscription for most functions apart from the chatbot. This will be included for one year for new Plus Chromebooks and three months for normal Chromebooks (without Plus). After that, the subscription currently costs 22 euros per month.

)Chromebooks still largely manage without processors with an AI unit – so they cannot efficiently accelerate the AI functions locally without using the CPU cores and GPU.
The Galaxy Chromebook Plus is equipped with a Core 3 100U with two performance and four efficiency cores, a new edition of the older Core i3-1315U. It also has 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD. With a weight of 1.17 kg, Google is talking about the lightest Chromebook Plus to date. In Germany, sales are set to start at the beginning of 2025 for 799 euros.
