Powertoys 0.85: New+ enables custom file and folder templates in context menu
Version 0.85 of the practical Powertoys tool collection includes the "New+" function, which allows you to create your own file or folder templates.

The developers of the Powertoys project have released version 0.85 of the powerful and useful tool collection for Windows. In addition to the usual bug fixes and minor improvements, the software includes a new function called "New+".

The release notes for Powertoys 0.85 highlight the most important changes. These include the new "New+" function. This adds a "New+" entry to the context menu in the file explorer, allowing you to create your own templates or directories and structures at the location of the click with just one click. This can be an empty document with a predefined file name for a specific app, a frequently used subdirectory name or files with predefined content.
Further detailed improvements in the Powertoys
The highlights also include further corrections for the new "Workspaces" function, which can open a whole set of apps with preset placements and window sizes with a single click –, which is practical after a computer restart, for example, as otherwise each regularly used app would have to be opened individually. The new version also allows the user interface language of the Powertoys to be selected. Improvements to the "Preview" function also lead to less memory usage, the developers explain.

In the release notes, the Powertoys programmers discuss many other minor improvements and corrections. The latest Powertoys version can be downloaded and installed using the integrated update mechanism. All you need to do is click on the "Check for updates" button in the "General" tab under "Version and updates". However, updated installation packages are also available for download:

At the beginning of September, Microsoft's developers released Powertoys version 0.84.1. In particular, it contained hotfixes for the new "Workspaces" function introduced with version 0.84.
