On the occasion of European Organ Donation Day, Mastercard is announcing another way to document the willingness to donate. To this end, Mastercard is cooperating with the e-money institute PayCenter, whose banking app VIMpay can be used to apply for the "Life Donor Feature". Mastercard customers can then use the app to enter their willingness to donate organs and also change or revoke it in this way. Information on organ and tissue donation can then be displayed on the back of the card. The pilot project is due to start shortly.

Mastercard commissioneda survey from the market research institute GfK in advance. It revealed that two thirds of the 1,000 or so respondents consider additional information on the bank card to be useful and one third believe that this would enable faster decisions to be made in an emergency.

Since March 2024, the organ donation portal of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) has made it possible to document one's willingness to donate organs online. This works, for example, with the online ID card function or with some health insurance companies in the app for the electronic patient file. According to a BfArM press officer, 176,000 people have now made use of this option.
