Two new lenses in the Fujifilm cosmos
A new standard zoom lens 16-55mm with continuous aperture F2.8 and a lightweight super-tele 500mm F5.6 extend the range of the compact X series.

Lighter and smaller – is the motto of the two new lens releases that Fujifilm is bringing out for its X-series system cameras with APS-C sensor. While the telephoto lens is geared towards the needs of wildlife and landscape photographers, the innovations to the standard zoom also have videographers in mind.
The "always with you" 16-55 mm zoom
The new XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II follows on from its predecessor, which was around a third heavier. The new zoom lens has also been reduced in length and width – thinner lens elements make this possible. With a focal length range of 16 to 55 millimetres (corresponding to 24-83mm KB), the zoom covers the full range between a light wide-angle and a light telephoto lens.
Compared to the previous model, the bokeh is different and appears without distracting rings and with softer transitions. The closest focusing distance has also been significantly reduced compared to the previous model and is now 30 centimetres.
Videographers will be interested to know that a mechanical deactivation of the aperture stop allows quiet and stepless aperture control. This means that no unwanted noises disturb the recording.
The Fujinon XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II will be available in stores from December at a price of 1350 euros.
Lying in wait with the 500 mm telephoto lens
In Fujifilm's X system, the XF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR is the longest telephoto focal length to date and, at 1335 grams, still a comparatively light one. Its 500 millimetres correspond to around 760 millimetres in 35mm at a speed of f/5.6. If this is not enough, the optical focal length can be increased even further with a teleconverter. The advanced image stabilizer allows longer exposure times (5.5 EV steps) when shooting with a tripod is not possible. The design and arrangement of the built-in lenses is intended to reduce chromatic aberrations, which often occur in telephoto shots.

The lens is suitable for outdoor use thanks to its dust and splash-proof housing for use down to -10 degrees. The Super-Tele offers a focus preset button that keeps the focus at a defined distance. Series of images that should always be focused on the same spot, such as animals jumping over an obstacle, benefit from such a preset. The autofocus is driven by a fast and quiet linear motor.
The Fujinon XF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR will be available in stores from November 2024 at a price of 3400 euros.
