A number of details have been added to the German Federal Network Agency's dead zone map. As the agency announced, the measurement results of the broadband measurement and dead zone app can now be called up differentiated by federal state. It is also possible to view information at district and municipal level.
Another addition is a new filter function. This can be used to select individual technologies, different network operators and specific time periods.
Launched five years ago
The map was published for the first time in November 2019. It provides an overview of the measurement results generated by users of the broadband measurement/radio blackout app. The app can be used to record where there are dead spots or where a mobile connection is available. The app was developed on behalf of the Federal Network Agency and is available free of charge for Android and iOS. Citizens can use the map to get an impression of the network expansion and broadband situation in selected locations, for example. However, the agency restricts that the map does not provide definitive information on the network technologies available locally from individual providers.

According to the Federal Network Agency, the map contains a total of around 250 million measuring points from around 300,000 users. The data covers the period from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2024 and is part of the federal government's gigabit land register. The information services offered include the broadband atlas, mobile communications monitoring, the broadband measurement map and the wireless black hole map. For those involved in broadband expansion, there is also an infrastructure atlas and an analysis platform.
