iMac 2024 now with Apple M4: More colors, more speed, more RAM
The iMac M4 comes in fresh colors, with more Thunderbolt 4 ports, new USB-C accessories and an optional anti-glare 24" display.

Hello, iMac M4: Apple updated its all-in-one computer on Monday. The iMac thus marks the start of the announced series of updates for Macs, with the MacBook Pro and Mac mini with M4 expected to follow on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Apple's M4 chip, which has already made its debut in the iPad Pro, is now available in an 8-core and a 10-core version in the iMac. According to the company, the processor is up to twice as fast as the M1 of its predecessor for more demanding tasks. No comparison was made with the iMac M3 from the previous year.
16 GB RAM now minimum
The previous iMac entry-level model with only 8 GB of RAM has finally had its day; 16 GB of Unified Memory is now also integrated in the basic configuration. The iMac can be upgraded to a maximum of 32 GB RAM, but only at the time of purchase and not retrospectively. RAM and SSD are soldered to the motherboard.
The prices for memory upgrades remain grotesque: If you choose 24 GB RAM instead of 16 GB, you will pay 230 euros more. Doubling the storage space from 256 GB to 512 GB also costs 230 euros extra. For 1 TByte, an additional 460 euros are due, for 2 TByte even 960 euros, which puts the iMac over the 3000 euro mark in the maximum configuration.
The iMac design, which will be completely overhauled in 2021, will not change, but there will be new colors to choose from, as the manufacturer announced. As before, the 4.5K display remains at a diagonal of 24 inches; Apple no longer offers a larger model. For the first time, there is the option to configure an anti-reflective variant (nano-textured glass) for an additional charge.

The entry-level price for the iMac M4 in Germany is now 1500 euros, 100 euros less than its predecessor. The basic model comes with a 256 GB SSD and only has two USB-C ports, which now support Thunderbolt 4.
If you need the Ethernet port integrated into the external power supply, you also pay an extra 30 euros. The latter is included in more expensive iMac configurations – as well as four USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4.
The more expensive models with 10-core M4 now support the operation of two external monitors with up to 6K and 60 Hz.
Apple also promises improvements to the integrated 12-megapixel camera in all models.
New colors for the iMac and USB-C accessories
The iMac M4 is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver, all colors are also available for the base model, which was not previously the case. Apple is also updating the included accessories – Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard –: the Lightning port used for charging has been replaced by a USB-C socket. The optional nano-textured glass is only available on the more expensive 10-core model (from €1750), while Apple charges an extra €230 for the anti-glare 4.5K screen. Apple has already opened pre-orders for the iMac 2024, which will go on sale on November 8.
The price comparison still shows offers for last year's model with the M3 chip.
