Apple TV+: Third season of "Severance" in the making
Due to strikes and other problems, fans had to wait almost three years for new "Severance" episodes. This should no longer be the case for season 3.

The drama series "Severance", with its complex science fiction references, is one of the big hits on Apple TV+. Nevertheless, fans of the show had to wait from April 2022 to January 2025 for the second season. This will no longer happen with season 3: As the trade publication Hollywood Reporter reports, pre-production is already underway.
Work in the writers' room is underway
Producer and director Ben Stiller stated that the writers' room for the new episodes had already been started in Los Angeles. A three-year wait is therefore not to be expected, he said hopefully. The scripts for US series are created jointly in the writers' room. However, Apple itself has not yet officially confirmed that there will be a third season – "Severance" is so important for the streaming service that it is highly likely.

There is currently a wave of budget cuts in Hollywood, with Netflix, Amazon Prime and co. ordering fewer shows or wanting to spend less money. But Stiller believes that it will be possible to continue the show with similar splendor. Apple has "stayed on track" and is supporting the project. Apple TV+ programming boss Matt Cherniss confirmed this and said that "Severance" is an "incredible success story in every conceivable area".
Strike and changes in Hollywood
According to Stiller, a lot has changed since the strike, which was the main reason for the late start of the second season. "People are looking at budgets and spending differently." "Severance" had garnered 14 Emmy nominations alone and received much critical acclaim.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series generated new subscribers with a total turnover of over 200 million US dollars –, but an episode reportedly costs up to 20 million dollars. Stiller would not confirm these costs. Apple does not reveal how often "Severance" is watched. TV+ is sold as a monthly subscription for 9.99 euros, and the service can be tested free of charge for seven days. Anyone who has treated themselves to new Apple hardware – including iPhone, Mac, Apple TV or iPad – will receive TV+ free of charge for three months.
