At the International Consumer Electronics Fair (IFA) in Berlin today, two IT security seals of approval were awarded to Zoom by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). The US software company Zoom Video Communications, based in San José, California, received the labels for its two services "Zoom Workplace Basic" and "Zoom Workplace Pro".

The BSI's IT security label is intended to help consumers choose secure digital services. It indicates that a product meets certain IT security requirements and provides up-to-date information on updates and security features via the BSI website or a QR code on the seal. The label is currently awarded to mobile devices, intelligent consumer devices, broadband routers, email services and video conferencing services, and manufacturers and providers can apply for it.

The IT security mark for video conferencing services is based on DIN SPEC 27008 and confirms to the video conferencing provider that the"Zoom Workplace Basic" and"Zoom Workplace Pro" services meet basic security requirements. These are primarily account protection, update and vulnerability management, authentication mechanisms, transparency, secure data center operation and other functions such as up-to-date encryption technologies and control during the video conference.

BSI Vice President Dr. Gerhard SchabhĂĽser personally presented the awards today and emphasized their importance in the field of IT security: "We congratulate Zoom on being awarded two IT security labels. The video conferencing service provider is thus making an important contribution to transparency in the IT security of video conferencing services and sending a clear signal to the industry to implement appropriate security requirements for consumers."

Zoom is following in the footsteps of Berlin-based OpenTalk GmbH, which was the first provider to receive the IT seal of approval for video conferencing services in July 2024.
