Slovenian Bluetooth tracker specialist Chipolo has launched a new device on the market that combines two worlds in one: The new POP can cope with both Apple's “Where is?” world and Google's “Find my device” – but not at the same time. The tracker is available in six colors and, unlike Apple's Airtags, has a hole for connecting to a keychain. POP is said to be directly compatible with current versions of iOS (from 14.5) and Android (9+) without the need for an additional app. Alternatively, Chipolo offers its software with which settings can be made, such as the tracker's ringtone.

POP comes with a replaceable CR2032 battery and is protected against dust and water splashes in accordance with IP55. The runtime per battery is up to one year. The Bluetooth reception range is said to be around 90 meters. The POP costs 35 euros individually, a package with four POPs costs 105 euros and one with six POPs costs 149 euros.

This means you pay less than 25 euros per unit, which is slightly above the current street price of AirTags in a pack of four (ab 91,90 €). Unfortunately, the POP does not support ultra-wideband support (UWB) for precise tracking in the centimeter range, which is (unfortunately) still normal for third-party trackers.

Unfortunately, there is no on-the-fly switch between Android and iOS. POP either runs with Apple's “Where is?” or with Google's “Find my device”. There are currently no plans to combine both networks. If you don't yet know whether you will remain in the Apple or Android world, you at least have the option of continuing to use the hardware.

Chipolo states that the volume of the POP is “loud”. There is also an “out of range” alarm under Android. At the double press of a button, you can also make your smartphone ring if you have misplaced it. Otherwise, the range of functions is the same as that of the AirTag, minus the UWB option. Chipolo has been in the Bluetooth tracker business for over ten years – initially only with its network. Later, there were also devices with compatibility to the Apple network. The company also offers its trackers for Android only and sells wallet-sized trackers.
