Final Cut Pro: Updates for Mac and iPad including image generators
Apple has updated its professional editing program on all platforms. This time it is (also) about AI – but not only.

Editors and videographers should take a look at the update function in the App Store: A major update for Final Cut Pro has been available for download since Thursday evening. This affects both the macOS version (now 11.1) and Final Cut Pro for the iPad (now 2.2). Among other things, Apple has implemented new AI features and brought system-wide Apple Intelligence functions into Final Cut Pro. The latter are – presumably – also available in German from next week with macOS 15.4 and iPadOS 18.4; currently they can only be used with the system language English and an App Store account from an area outside the EU and China.
Final Cut Pro 11.1 for Mac: AI and more
With Final Cut Pro 11.1 on the Mac, it is now possible to apply effects and color corrections to an adjustment clip via the timeline – and to several clips simultaneously. Magnetic masks are faster, less error-prone and have a new keyboard shortcut for showing and hiding the editor. Quantec QRS effects for audio reverb are implemented to simulate rooms. Audio effects can now also be renamed in the info window.
The browser now shows the source of multicam clips and synchronized clips. The handling of markers in the timeline has also been improved – They can be dragged in and out of clips. With Image Playground, an Apple Intelligence image generator also lands in Final Cut Pro 11.1. "Use Apple Intelligence to quickly create stylized images based on a description, suggested concepts or people from your Photos library," writes Apple. This works with macOS 15.2 or higher and with Macs that have at least an M1. Final Cut Pro costs 350 euros. The Final Cut Pro update also includes updates for Motion (5.10) and Compressor (4.10).
50 fps, portrait format and more for the iPad
Final Cut Pro 2.2 for the iPad can now complete more workflows in portrait format. Using keyboard commands (with Magic Keyboard or another keyboard), the selection can also be moved, replaced by gaps and extracted for the primary storyline, including the option to overwrite. The iPad version of Final Cut Pro can now also edit and publish at 50 fps.
With the integrated Image Playground, images can be created using Apple Intelligence – in the same way as on the Mac. It should be noted that Apple does not provide photorealistic images, as is the case with other image generators.
