HomePod mini becomes portable: How it works with the battery base
Special power supplies for the HomePod mini have been available since 2021, turning it into a portable Siri speaker. A market overview with alternatives.

The HomePod mini is actually designed for stationary use. However, the smart speaker with Siri function, which first appeared in 2020, works in a power-saving manner via USB-C - and so buyers soon came up with the idea of operating the speaker on the move by plugging it into a power bank. This is still possible now - of course also with the new "Midnight" color, which was recently released. However, the mini expects Power Delivery with 20 watts - this power supply unit is also included with the device. But there is a nicer way: a whole range of battery bases are now available on the market that are specially designed for the HomePod mini.
Battery base from Mission
These first appeared on the market shortly after the HomePod mini was launched, for example the so-called Battery Base from Mission. However, it is currently difficult to find in Germany. If you can find it, it costs around 45 euros and promises a runtime of nine hours without a cable.
It contains a retractor for the HomePod mini's 1.8-meter USB-C cable. One port is used for connection, another for charging. The HomePod is held in place with a clip. 14.4 watt-hours at 2000 mAh inside, with a maximum output of 30 watts.
PlusAcc with more juice
The PlusAcc HomePod mini battery base is newer and somewhat more modern (and, above all, currently available). It costs around 54 euros and is available in white and black. The manufacturer also offers products for competitor systems such as Amazon Alexa. The PlusAcc comes with a 10,000 mAh battery. This should provide ten hours of playtime at 50 percent maximum volume, half that at 100 percent (which hardly anyone is likely to use). The battery pack shows the charge status with four LEDs.
There is also a rewind option for the cable, plus a USB-C charging port. At maximum speed, the 10,000 mAh can be topped up in four hours. Instead of a clip, however, the HomePod mini is held in place with a removable and reusable adhesive tape. The manufacturer does not specify the weight. The HomePod mini alone weighs 345 grams.
