Instead of glassy macOS: Better make a "Snow Sequoia", Tim!
Apple has big plans again for the new macOS: a redesign. But it might be smarter to work on stability.

Snow Sequoia: Time for a non-update?

At the moment, it looks very much as though Apple is planning major redesigns of all its operating systems, including iOS 19, iPadOS 19 and macOS 16. Further harmonization measures between the interfaces for iPhone, iPad and Mac are reportedly planned, which may all be given a glass-like look. In the context of the possible redesign, which is expected to be announced in June at WWDC 2025, Apple's macOS strategy is once again being criticized. Professionals in particular would prefer Apple to carry out product maintenance and fix bugs rather than possibly getting bogged down with a new design.
Bugs again and again
There were already hopes of this last year in connection with the 15th anniversary of macOS 10.6 alias Snow Leopard. In 2009, Apple even proudly announced that it wanted to stabilize the previous version of Leopard and improve it internally instead of overloading it with new functions. In fact, this idea is at least as relevant in 2025 as it was back then. "Zero new features" was announced at the time and a well-rounded package was delivered that fixed annoying bugs.
macOS 15 aka Sequoia has similar problems to Leopard. There were some massive problems in the release cycle, primarily for corporate users. After the release, endpoint security tools simply no longer worked as usual. Later, several updates repeatedly slowed down network filters, and there were also error reports when using VPNs. The stability of individual program components also left a lot to be desired. Apple now seems to have a tendency to make largely unannounced internal changes that can have a significant impact – and to not find the bugs in time during the beta phase.
The look is not decisive
This also has to do with the strict release cycle once a year. Developers take care of new functions, which the company can then announce, instead of solving older problems. A transition to a two-year cycle is repeatedly brought into play, but this was over a decade ago: Snow Leopard followed two years after Leopard.
Users were pleased rather than resentful of Apple. In fact, the possible far-reaching changes in macOS updates have recently ensured that users only switch to version .3 or .4 to make sure that the most serious bugs have been fixed. A prettier design is not so important.
