Manufacturer Nanoleaf is expanding its range of smart lamps with an illuminated display case called Expo Smart Display Case. The box-shaped case is 36 centimetres wide inside, 25 centimetres deep and 19 centimetres high. A full-surface overhead light illuminates the contents of the case in white or RGB colors without shadows. The collector's item(s) can be seen through a transparent front and back. The other plastic walls are opaque.

The light can be controlled either with the housing buttons or via the manufacturer's app - to a limited extent also with the smart home apps from Amazon, Apple, Google, Samsung and Razer. The LEDs can also light up to the beat of music and in the mirrored colors of a TV or computer display. They receive radio signals via Wi-Fi 4 (2.4 GHz).

Nanoleaf developed the light box in collaboration with the Fantaqi design studio, whose first product this is in Germany. The LED display case can already be ordered on the Fantaqi website. It should be "available soon" in the Nanoleaf online store.

To get started, you need a starter kit that bundles four light boxes at a price of 300 euros. Each additional case costs 100 euros. Combining several cases is interesting for fans of sophisticated LED lighting, as color gradient effects can then be activated across the cases. If several cases are placed next to or on top of each other, the software registers their relative position to each other, making it easier to map and assign colors.

According to the Fantaqi website, up to 300 cases can be grouped together, provided there is enough space. The external dimensions are 38 x 29 x 22 centimeters.

The cases can be linked via a cable connection so that each individual display case does not require a power supply unit. The four included in the starter kit are specified with a consumption of 7 watts each, each supplementary case requires 5 watts. The two manufacturers do not say how many cases can be operated with the included power supply unit. Fantaqi lists two additional power supply variants in the store. The 42-watt version (26 euros) is said to be able to supply up to eight additional cases with power, the 75-watt version (41 euros) up to 16.
